Between the world and our perception of it, there's our body. The organic matter of our body doesn't experience, but through chemical reactions therein, we perceive it to be otherwise. Everything we experience is interpreted then hallucinated by the body, through the mind. What we experience is an illusion even on the most direct of levels!! This makes me think, what other organic beings create electrical signals to process information, despite not being made of flesh and blood... the root systems of a tree is known to act similarly to a brain, and trees make countless decisions throughout their lifetimes, from in which direction to grow (based on sunlight, but also based on other surrounding trees, be they friend or foe), to sharing resources with other plants and trees, to handling certain insect threats by excreting pheromones to attract their predators, and much more. If a tree didn't feel pain, would it know/want to deal with the problem? This is pure speculation on my part, but it makes much sense.
