My mind kind of turned around by the end of this, so this is mostly a reduced version of what I'd originally typed out--

I'm torn on this one. Just because content exists, doesn't make it good, or suitable for children.

I'll fully admit that my own hyper-sheltered childhood probably has influenced my ideas on this. But I promise I could pull out plenty of books, images, and movies that would pull people together in agreeing some materials aren't for everyone, and not for children at all. Which isn't to compare what's being banned to these horrible titles I have in mind (these are movies only, but they make the point more easily-- Starry Eyes, Cannibal Holocaust, Gun Woman, Incision, Found, Serbian Film...), but to shift the question from "should there be banned content in schools?", to the next question we'd be trying to reach, "which content should be banned from schools?"

I believe in an informational (non-influential) approach based on what children are old enough to understand. Where sex is involved - because I know that's where most of the banning happens - I'd want to evaluate all of it, from materials related to the LGBTQ+ movement, to christianity (the current influencers of how more than a quarter of the the world treats sex and relationships in general), the Kama Sutra, etc.

Because we cater everything else for their small, developing minds, so why not look more closely when it comes to something so fundamental to the rest of their lives?

Just, what are we programming them with before they're ready to assess it and apply it to themselves?

That's all I'm asking.

Honestly though too, I think we might only need to prepare children to love themselves *and respect others* first no matter what, then we can probably show them anything, and someday allow them full control over the rest of their lives, and all will probably be fine.
