I agree that the system is arbitrary and confusing.

I honestly kind of wish I couldn't receive any, but that extends beyond Medium.

I once was complimented by my aunt on a singing performance... I responded with something along the lines of "I don't need your appreciation".

My mother later had questions. I believe I understand where I went wrong.
